The University of Leeds is also one of the oldest institutions in England, having its origins in the Yorkshire College of Science and Leeds Medical School of 1874. Leeds, the third largest city in the United Kingdom, is situated on the banks of the River Aire in northern England, within easy reach of the natural beauties of the Yorkshire Dales, the North York Moors, and the Pennines. Leeds is the historic hub for the country’s manufacturing industry and textile trade as well as the cultural, sporting and shopping center for much of the Airedale region. The central location of the city in West Yorkshire provides easy access to the rest of Great Britain; London is only 2 ½ hours away and Edinburgh 3 hours by train!
