The Wilson College of Textiles’ family of alumni grew on May 6 with two commencement ceremonies celebrating the Class of 2022.

The college celebrated 154 bachelor’s degrees, 31 master’s degrees and 8 doctoral degrees earned during the spring semester.

The ceremony celebrating bachelor’s and master’s graduates took place in historic Reynolds Coliseum.

Distinguished Young Alumni Award winner Shane O’Toole addressed the new graduates with advice from his years in industry.

“Have a purpose for the work you do and the energy you spend,” he said. “But always chase a passion and make progress for what drives you.”

Textile Technology alumna Gunikka Ahuja was selected as the student speaker for this year’s ceremony. Ahuja traveled thousands of miles from her hometown in India to attend NC State. She told her classmates that her risk paid off.

“Take that risk, accept that job, make that choice to move across the country if you have to,” Ahuja said. “Because that might just be the thing that changes your life and redefines your perspective.”
