Meet the Members of the Dean’s Young Alumni Leadership Council

A group of recent graduates is helping to shape the NC State Wilson College of Textiles as they give back to their alma mater. The Dean’s Young Alumni Leadership Council was established with 12 members in 2017; over the past year, members have worked to support the College in myriad ways, from volunteering their time at events to creating internship opportunities for current students.

Shamey Named Ciba Professor of Textile Chemistry

Dr. Renzo Shamey, professor and University Scholar in the department of Textile Engineering, Chemistry and Science, has been named the Ciba Professor of Textile Chemistry, effective March 1, 2018. The Ciba professorship recognizes an expert in the field of color and the coloration process and supports their research into color science.

Graduate Student Gets LA Times Byline

College of Textiles doctoral student Mira Abed spent the summer in the hectic newsroom of the Los Angeles Times. She penned nine articles for the paper as part of a 10 week fellowship with the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), a multidisciplinary non-profit whose mission is to "advance science, engineering, and innovation throughout the world for the benefit of all people."

Centennial Recipient Honors His Gift Through Service

First-generation college student Santiago Tellez received an incredible opportunity when he was named a North Carolina Textile Foundation Centennial Scholar in 2014: the ability to pursue higher education at NC State. He's showing his appreciation by giving back to the community.
