All Sewn Up

Dr. Hui Cong will soon return to her hometown in China -- but she is leaving behind a body of work that will help make better, longer lasting surgical materials. She has focused her research here at the College of Textiles on absorbable barbed sutures -- monofilaments that each look like the thorned stem of a rose -- which eliminate the need for tying knots, thus reducing surgical time and promoting wound healing.

Shamey Named Ciba Professor of Textile Chemistry

Dr. Renzo Shamey, professor and University Scholar in the department of Textile Engineering, Chemistry and Science, has been named the Ciba Professor of Textile Chemistry, effective March 1, 2018. The Ciba professorship recognizes an expert in the field of color and the coloration process and supports their research into color science.

Fiber and Polymer Science Graduate Students Receive Research Grants

Two College of Textiles doctoral students recently received funding for their research projects through the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC) Foundation. Recipients Tushar Bambharoliya and Radhika Vaid are both members of Dr. Martin King’s Bio-Medical Textiles Research Group, conducting research focused on developing biodegradable medical materials that can be reabsorbed into the body.
