Student Advisory Board Profiles

Joanne Zhang, President

sab zhangJoanne Zhang is a Senior majoring in Fashion and Textile Management-Brand Management and Marketing while also minoring in Business Administration. In addition to being the President of the TATM SAB, she is also the President of the Wilson College of Textiles Ambassadors, a CottonWorks™ Ambassador, and a Member of Sigma Tau Sigma Honor Society. Throughout her time at NC State, she gained global experience by studying abroad in Florence, Italy. For the past two summers, she has been a Social Media and Marketing Intern for Food Seen. This summer, she was a Buying Intern for Macy’s in New York City. With her experience, she plans on pursuing a career in merchandising.

 

 

Colby Hopper

sav hopperColby Hopper is a Junior majoring in Fashion and Textile Design, with a concentration in Textile Design, and is the recipient of the Jacques Weber Centennial Scholarship. Outside of TATM SAB, she is the Junior Class Representative for Tompkins Textile Student Council. Colby is a member of the Helping Hand Project, a student run club that 3D prints prosthetic devices for children with upper limb deformities. She volunteers her time to paint the prosthetic devices, creating an individual design for each child. This past summer, she interned for Renaissance Fiber, a Wilmington, NC based hemp fiber processor, where she researched and developed a sustainability report for hemp fiber. She is expected to graduate in May of 2021, and hopes to pursue a career in the developing sustainable and inclusive fashion industry.

 

Kori Hyer

sab hyerKori Hyer is a Senior majoring in Fashion and Textile Design with a concentration in Fashion Design. Kori is a Centennial Scholarship recipient and a Caldwell Fellow. Outside of the TATM SAB, she is the Co-director of Photography for Platform Magazine, the student-run magazine at NC State. She is also a photographer and ambassador for the Advancement of Women Entrepreneurs. This summer she worked for Kohl’s as an Apparel Design intern. Kori is passionate about innovation in the apparel design industry and is highly interested in 3D design. Following graduation, she plans to pursue a career in apparel design.

 

 

Michelle Kerstein

sab kersteinMichelle Kerstein is a senior studying Fashion and Textile Management with a concentration in Brand Management and Marketing and a minor in Environmental Science. Michelle is a Centennial Scholarship recipient. Outside of TATM SAB, she is the President of Greater Good Textile Group, a student representative on the Wilson College Sustainability Committee, and a member of the Kappa Tau Beta Textile Leadership Fraternity. Michelle has experience with product development, communications, public relations, and marketing, through her internships and jobs at Kohl’s, AAFA, and Wilson College. She is passionate about fostering textile and apparel sustainability and telling a company’s sustainability story. Michelle is seeking a full time position after graduation.

 

Devin Leadbeater, VP and Treasurer

sab leadbeaterDevin Leadbeater is a Junior majoring in Fashion and Textile Management with a concentration in Fashion Development and Product Management. His time here at NC State is defined by his involvement, and roles of leadership in clubs and organizations both inside and outside of his area of study. Aside from being the Vice President and Treasurer of the TATM SAB, he is the founder and President of Final Cut Film Club at NC State, an ambassador for the Wilson College of Textiles, a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, an Adventure club member, and a member of the Swim Club at NC State. What remains constant through all of his different passions and areas of interest is his love for community and commitment to success. Following graduation, he plans to pursue a career in either marketing or merchandising with a company whose values align with his own.

 

Lara Rabinowitz

sab rabinowitzLara Rabinowitz is a Sophomore majoring in Fashion and Textile Design with a concentration in Textile Design and Anthropology. She has worked as a costume shop volunteer for NC State University Theatre and as a student fundraiser for The Campaign for NC State. Through Leadership & Civic Engagement, she serves as a team leader for ASB Alaska. She receives OUR and PEP funding to research integrating The Harriss Collection of Modern Fabrics into TADA, a textile design pattern archive. In summer 2019, she attended archaeological field school in Cyprus, completing an independent study in archaeological textiles. She plans a career in textile design and cultural textile heritage.

 

 

Grace Walters

sab waltersGrace Walters is a Junior majoring in Fashion and Textile Design with a concentration in Textile design. Grace is the service coordinator for the Greater Good Textile Group and a member of the Climate Reality Project Campus Corps at NC State. Over the past year, she worked as a Floor Operations Specialist at Spoonflower. Grace is passionate about sustainable design and minimizing waste in and from the textile and fashion industries. After graduation, she hopes to pursue a career in textile design for home interiors at a company that shares her values.

 

 

 

Hannah Ziegler, Special Events Chair

sab zieglerHannah Ziegler is a Junior majoring in Fashion and Textile Management- Brand Management and Marketing while also pursuing a minor in Global Leadership and Team Decision Making. In addition to her role as the Special Events Chair of TATM SAB, she is also President of Fashion Group and a member of College Mentors for Kids. As for professional experience, Hannah currently holds a number of college marketing strategy roles. Specifically, Rent the Runway Campus Coordinator, the Campus Media Manager for Bumble, and a former Aerie Brand Ambassador. Additionally, she coordinates marketing and communication for Smashing Boxes, a software development agency. In each of these roles and environments, she emphasizes her values of keeping your word and being a little kinder to others than necessary. Hannah is passionate about building women-centric consumer brands through innovative marketing techniques, and upon graduation, plans to pursue a career in digital or community marketing.
