Collaborative Research May Lead to Better Batteries


To produce his high performance battery anodes Kun Fu, a PhD student in the FPS program, used the aligned carbon nanotube fabrics produced in Dr. Bradford’s lab and coated them with a nanoscale layer of silicon which increased the battery performance. Extensive testing in Dr. Zhang’s lab showed that the novel anodes had 5x the energy density of commercial graphite anodes and had a stable cycling behavior.
