  • Dr. Peter Hauser: Named Interim Department Head of Textile Engineering, Chemistry and Science.

  • Dr. Jeff Joines: Awarded 2014 Distinguished Service Award by the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences Simulation Society.

  • Dr. Jon Rust: Named Interim Director of the Zeis Textiles Extension Education for Economic Development Center; awarded an Outstanding Faculty Award from the 2015 Chancellor’s Creating Community Awareness Program.

2013-2014 Faculty Honors, Awards and Recognition:

  • Dr. Alex Bogdanovich: Elected to serve two year term as Committee Chairman for the TexComp International Scientific Committee and Chair the TexComp-12 conference to be held at NC State University in June 2015.
  • Dr. Philip Bradford: Outstanding Teacher Award for the College of Textiles, Academy of Outstanding Teachers.
  • Dr. Ahmed El-Shafei: Promoted to Associate Professor with tenure.
  • Dr. Warren Jasper: Awarded a Fulbright Specialist Grant in Engineering Education at Shenkar College in Tel Aviv.
  • Dr. Melissa Pasquinelli: Named Alumni Distinguished Undergraduate Professor, University Faculty Scholar.
  • Dr. Nelson Vinueza: Lead a group of faculty (Drs. King, Krause, Michielsen, and Pasquinelli) to participate in the First Yachay University Discussion. Yachay is the Planned City of Knowledge to be built in Ibarra, Ecuador.
  • Dr. Xiangwu Zhang: Named Yangguang Chaired Professor, Wuhan Textile University.

  • Dr. Renzo Shamey: Promoted to Professor, Honorary Professor of Coloration and Color Science certificate from Tianjin Polytechnic University.

  • Dr. Russell Gorga: Over 200 citations for review article: “Polymer-matrix nanocomposites, processing, manufacturing, and application: An overview” F. Hussain, M. Hojjati, M. Okamoto, and R. Gorga; Journal of Composite Materials 40(17) p. 1511 (2006). Courage Carolina Project with TE Senior Design Students. SHE – Curry Stone Design Prize $100,000.
  • Dr. Peter Hauser: Appointed to Scientific Board (Technical Editor) for InTech Publishing. Appointed to the Advisory Board ofTenside Surfactants Detergents. Area Editor of Journal of Engineered Fibers and Fabrics. President elect of AATCC.
  • Dr. David Hinks: 2009-2010 State Alumni Association Outstanding Extension and Outreach Award, Academy of Outstanding Faculty Engaged in Extension.
  • Dr. Sam Hudson: Over 650 citations for 2004 article: Gil, ES, SM Hudson, “Stimuli-Responsive Polymers and Their Biconjugates”, Progress in Polymer Science, 29 (12): 1173-1222 DEC 2004.
  • Dr. Warren Jasper: Senior Design team of MAE and TE students 2nd place at the AIAA regional competition: Inflated Fabric Habitat for Martian Surface and Nanoscale Life Support Catatlysis.
  • Dr. Jeff Joines: College of Textiles nomination for Board of Governors Award.
  • Dr. Marian McCord: Chosen as the 1st Faculty Star in “An Evening with a Star” hosted by NCSU Division of Enrollment Management and Services. SHE – Curry Stone Design Prize $100,000. NCSU BME Senior Design Team 1st Place in the BMEStart biomedical design competition for undergraduate students.
  • Dr. Stephen Michielsen: Chairman of the Board of LAAMScience.
  • Dr. Melissa Pasquinelli: High School research student, Melissa Chan, won the NC International Science Challenge and will be one of four finalists representing the US at the Beijing Youth Science Creation Competition.
  • Dr. Behnam Pourdeyhimi: NCSU Innovator of the Year. Centenary Award of the Textile Institute by the Governing Council of the Textile Institute.
  • Dr. Julie Willoughby: Invited to be on the editorial board for Silicon.
  • Dr. Xiangwu Zhang: Editorial board for the Journal of Membrane Science & Technology.

  • Dr. Roger Barker: Named to the National Academy of Science Standing Committee of Personal Protective Clothing; Named United States Expert to the European Society on Protective Clothing.
  • Dr. Tushar Ghosh: “Pride of the Department” award from the Indian Institute of Technology, Textile Technology department.
  • Dr. Russell Gorga: “Professional Progress in Engineering Award” at Iowa State University; Project SEED student, Cierra Carter, won 3rd place at the National Student Academy of Science Competition.
  • Dr. David Hinks: Named the Cone Mills Professor of Textile Chemistry; Awarded Society of Dyers and Colourists Silver Research Medal.
  • Dr. Warren Jasper: Gertrude M. Cox Award for Innovative Excellence in Teaching and Learning with Technology
  • Dr. Jeffrey Joines: College of Textiles nominee for the Board of Governors Teaching Award.
  • Dr. Stephen Michielsen: Promoted to Professor.
  • Dr. Melissa Pasquinelli: Outstanding Teacher Award from the College of Textiles; Project SEED student, Diana Gorgy, won 3rd place at the National Student Academy of Science Competition.
  • Dr. Behnam Pourdeyhimi: INDA Lifetime Achievement Award.
  • Dr. Renzo Shamey: Named Fellow of the Society of Dyers and Colourists; Awarded the Society of Dyers and Colourists Gold Research Medal.

 

2009-2010 Outreach, Service and Extension Highlights:

  • Dr. Roger Barker served the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) as a member on the Technical Correlating Committee and the Technical Committee on Standards for Fire Fighter Protective Clothing. He was also appointed to the National Academy of Science Review Committee for NIOSH Personal Protective Technology. He also is a member of the Editorial Board for the International Journal of Bioengineering and Informatics.
  • Dr. Keith Beck served on the Board of Directors and Foundation Board of Directors of the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC). He also served on the AATCC committee for Spectroscopic Technologies as Secretary and on the Publications Committee as Chair. He served the NCSU as Chair of the Occupational Safety and Health Council.
  • Dr. Harold Freeman served as board member on the National Textile Center, the Coloration Technology Journal and the Textile Research Journal. He also serves on the AATCC Publication Committee and Dye Symposium Committee, as well as, Chair of the Olney Medal Committee.
  • Dr. Russell Gorga served as Chair of the NC ACS Polymer Discussion Group and on the AATCC steering committee for the Nanotechnology Symposium. He is also a board member on the NC Alpha Chapter of Tau Beta Pi. He also serves as Textile Engineering Program Director.
  • Dr. Peter Hauser served as AATCC Board Member and Chair of Chemical Applications Interest Group. He also chaired the Southern Textile Research Conference. He serves the department as Associate Head and Director of Graduate Programs.
  • Dr. David Hinks continues to serve as Academic Editor for the Society of Dyers and Colourists and on the Board of Directors of the Inter-Society Color Council. He also serves as Chair and US delegate for SDC on the ISO WG7SC1 Color Measurement Committee and Chair of the AATCC Color Science Symposium Sub-Committee. He also serves on the Intersociety Color Council Board of Directors. He serves the university as Chair of the ad-hoc Forensic Science Institute Steering Committee among many other service activities.
  • Dr. Jeff Joines served as Board Member and On-Line Management Director for the Winter Simulation Conference. He also teaches a number of lectures for the Six Sigma Black Belt and Master Black Belt Programs. He serves the department as Associate Head and Director of Undergraduate Programs.
  • Dr. Martin King served as Chair of the Society for Biomaterials among many other professional organization service activities.
  • Dr. Wendy Krause served as Gilbert Symposium Chair for the NC ACS Polymer Discussion Group. She also is an Emerging Leader Advance Fellow.
  • Dr. Marian McCord served as Board Member for AATCC.
  • Dr. Stephen Michielsen served as Board Member and Treasurer of The Fiber Society.
  • Dr. Melissa Pasquinelli served as Board Member of the ACS Women Chemists Committee and Secretary of the local ACS group.
  • Dr. Behnam Pourdeyhimi served as Chair of the TAPPI Nonwovens Steering Committee and the TAPPI Student Scholarship Committee.
  • Dr. Renzo Shamey served as Chair of the AATCC Textile Education Committee, AATCC Board Member and Faculty Advisor of the local AATCC Chapter. He also serves as Polymer and Color Chemistry Program Director.
  • Dr. Xiangwu Zhang served as Editors-in-Chief of the Journal of Energy Storage and Conversion and the Global Journal of Physical Chemistry.
