Utilizing TPACC to Achieve Your Research and Testing Needs

The Textile Protection and Comfort Center was established as a service center in 1994 and continues to be the only academic center in the U.S. that incorporates, in one location, the capabilities to conduct testing and evaluation on the comfort and protection of clothing materials, full garments and ensemble systems. TPACC personnel are recognized as scientists and engineers in the fields of clothing comfort and protection and have a proven performance record in conducting research and providing testing services to both industry and government clients. As a service center, TPACC can utilize its personnel and offer its unique equipment and testing capabilities to evaluate client supplied materials using industry standard testing protocols.

The university allows TPACC to conduct work in either in a research capacity or by provision of testing services. Research, such as development of new instrumentation or clothing prototyping, involves intellectual capital and carries university overheads with its detailed budget. Testing services do not involve the expenditure of intellectual capital, only provision of a service for execution of tasks related to a standard test method or other appropriate routine measurement procedure as specified by the client via use of our unique facilities.

The fee structure for either research or testing service are built based on project objective, personnel involved, and equipment used. Project objective can also help determine whether the work is research or service testing and the selection of a contract or testing service agreement.
