Image courtesy of Messe Frankfurt, Inc. | Written by Cameron Walker<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n The <\/span>Wilson College of Textiles<\/span><\/a> will be the center of the textile world this February 26-28, when it hosts <\/span>Techtextil North America<\/span><\/a> 2019 as its first official academic partner. <\/span>Techtextil North America is an annual trade event dedicated to the technical textiles and nonwovens industry. For three days this month, manufacturers, suppliers, service providers and industry professionals from all over the world will gather in the City of Oaks to network, learn and share the latest advancements in textile technology.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe Wilson College of Textiles at NC State University is proud to be the first academic partner for Techtextil North America,\u201d said <\/span>Dr. David Hinks<\/span><\/a>, dean of the Wilson College of Textiles. \u201cThroughout our 119-year journey, our College has been committed to catalyzing growth and innovation across the entire textiles enterprise. Our world-renowned faculty and staff recruit and prepare the future leaders of our industry, conduct applied research and development, inspire entrepreneurs and provide comprehensive professional education and workforce development that attracts new investment locally and nationally. We are also committed to knowledge transfer and inspiring collaboration. Our partnership with Techtextil North America is an ideal way to achieve our joint goal of advancing the textile industry.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n The show, held at the <\/span>Raleigh Convention Center<\/span><\/a> downtown, will feature the Symposium, a series of educational sessions with more than 20 speakers; Tech Talks, daily mini sessions hosted by the Nonwovens Institute; The Lab, talks and demonstrations centered on textile testing and quality management; and the Student Research Poster Program, presentations and discussions of research from undergraduate and graduate students from the Wilson College of Textiles and other top textile engineering, manufacturing and design programs in the country. There will also be a reception and lab tour on campus at the Wilson College of Textiles on Wednesday, February 27 at 6 p.m. Register and purchase tickets for these events on the <\/span>Techtextil website<\/span><\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n The 2019 Symposium will feature several panels moderated by Wilson College of Textiles professors, including <\/span>Dr. Roger Barker<\/span><\/a>, professor in the <\/span>Department of Textile Engineering, Chemistry and Science<\/span><\/a> (TECS) and director of the <\/span>Textile Protection and Comfort Center<\/span><\/a> (TPACC); <\/span>Dr. Bryan Ormond<\/span><\/a>, TPACC and TECS assistant professor; Dr. Jesse Jur, TECS associate professor; <\/span>Dr. Jeff Joines<\/span><\/a>, professor and TECS department head; <\/span>Dr. Martin King<\/span><\/a>, TECS professor; <\/span>Dr. Behnam Pourdeyhimi<\/span><\/a>, associate dean for Industry Research and Extension and director of the Nonwovens Cooperative Research Center; and <\/span>Dr. Philip Bradford<\/span><\/a>, TECS associate professor and Textile Engineering<\/a> program director. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n About 2,500 visitors and more than 175 exhibitors are expected to attend Techtextil this year. Past visitors include Nike<\/a>, Apple<\/a>, Procter & Gamble<\/a>, Cintas<\/a>, Tesla<\/a>, Adidas<\/a>, Burton Snowboards<\/a>, Dart Aerospace<\/a>, Target<\/a> and General Motors<\/a>, among others; past exhibitors include Shima Seiki<\/a>, Rubberlite<\/a>, Lenzing<\/a>, Navis TubeTex<\/a>, Santex<\/a>, Datacolor<\/a>, Erhardt + Leimer<\/a>, Sileather<\/a>, Thermetrics<\/a> and more.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n In conjunction with Techtextil, industry association <\/span>Spesa<\/span> is holding its annual <\/span>Advancements in Manufacturing Technologies<\/span> conference on Wednesday, February 27. This year\u2019s theme is \u201cManufacturing in an On-Demand World.\u201d <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n Representatives from visiting and exhibiting companies and <\/span>NC State<\/span><\/a> students have an extraordinary opportunity to connect as Techtextil draws to a close. The Wilson College of Textiles will host its 2019 Spring <\/span>Career Fair<\/span><\/a> on Thursday, February 28, from 1-5 p.m. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n TPACC will be kicking off their 25th anniversary celebrations on Tuesday, February 26 from 3-5 p.m. with a happy hour reception in the Wilson College booth at Techtextil.
