While 2020 proved challenging for many, it didn’t prevent Wilson College faculty and staff from achieving both success and recognition. Members of the community won a number of awards for their work in research, teaching and extension.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Established in 2012 by Chancellor Randy Woodson, the University Faculty Scholar award<\/a> recognizes and rewards emerging academic leaders among NC State\u2019s faculty in the areas of research and scholarship; teaching; and extension, engagement and service. Recipients of the award carry the title of University Faculty Scholar and receive a permanent increase to their base salary. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n Dr. Emiel DenHartog<\/a>, an associate professor in the Department of Textile Engineering, Chemistry and Science<\/span><\/a>, is <\/span>one of 24 early- and mid-career faculty members who received the honor in the class of 2019 -2020 He is an expert in the optimization of protection, performance and comfort of clothing for the human body for military, first responder, health and sports applications. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n Assistant Professor Ericka Ford<\/a>, a faculty member in Textile Engineering, Chemistry and Science<\/a>, has received the Outstanding Extension Award from NC State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The award honors her work in extension and engagement. Nominated by TECS Department Head and Professor Jeff Joines, Ford is most celebrated for how her licensed technology is quickly and seamlessly put into practice by partnering companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The associate professor is one of 13 NC State faculty and staff selected to join the Global Engagement Institute<\/a> for 2019-2020.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n The Global Engagement Institute is an annual program that provides professional development opportunities for faculty and staff who are interested in developing research, scholarship or academic programs with an international focus. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n Dr. Hergeth<\/a>, who teaches in the Department of Textile and Apparel, Technology and Management<\/a>, has been involved in the NC State study abroad program in Germany and teaches in the leadership minor program at the NC State European Center in Prague, Czech Republic. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n Recipients of the NC State Outstanding Teacher Award<\/a> are selected for their excellence in teaching at all levels. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n Dr. Katherine Annett-Hitchcock<\/a> is an associate professor in the Department of Textile and Apparel, Technology and Management<\/a>. As a successful mentor to both her undergraduate and graduate students, she provides the tools for her students to win awards in juried creative competitions, work toward bringing their research developments to market and present their work at national and international conferences.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n Melissa Sharp, associate director of Zeis Textiles Extension<\/span><\/a> in the Wilson College of Textiles, was recognized for her work in extension in Spring of 2020. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n She received the 2019 <\/span>Outstanding Extension Award<\/span><\/a> from NC State University, which recognizes excellence in extension, engagement and economic development activities by faculty and staff and parallels the NC State Outstanding Teacher Awards. Sharp works directly with state economic developers to recruit textile companies to North Carolina.
