Select photos courtesy Veritas Digital Photography <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n By Sarah Stone<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cNothing like any other class.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n That\u2019s how Associate Professor Kate Annnett-Hitchcock<\/a> described Threads<\/a> to the audience in a sold-out Talley Student Union ballroom and the hundreds of people watching from home. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Nearly one thousand people had gathered in-person and virtually to see the course\u2019s \u201cfinal exam\u201d \u2013 a 15 collection fashion show. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Fashion and textile management<\/a> (FTM) students in the fashion development and product management (FDPM) concentration as well as accelerated bachelor\u2019s master\u2019s<\/a> (ABM) students can enroll in this elective course, which is devoted entirely to planning, designing and constructing a collection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Each student is tasked with transforming their inspiration into runway-ready pieces that build off of each other to create a cohesive collection. Undergraduate students must create anywhere from three to five looks. Master\u2019s students are required to make between six and ten looks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI’m not really doing any traditional teaching, just sort of guiding them through the process,\u201d Dr. Annett-Hitchcock says. \u201cThey’re doing a lot of independent problem-solving, because the class is really like 16 different independent studies.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\nThe assignment<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
