{"id":25844,"date":"2022-04-01T11:04:38","date_gmt":"2022-04-01T15:04:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/textiles.ncsu.edu\/news\/?p=25844"},"modified":"2024-04-26T12:10:36","modified_gmt":"2024-04-26T16:10:36","slug":"donor-support-propels-wilson-college-to-success-on-nc-states-2022-day-of-giving","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/textiles.ncsu.edu\/news\/2022\/04\/donor-support-propels-wilson-college-to-success-on-nc-states-2022-day-of-giving\/","title":{"rendered":"Donor Support Propels Wilson College to Success on NC&#160;State&#8217;s 2022 Day of Giving"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n\n\n<p>On March 23, Logan Adkins, a sophomore studying fashion and textile management, made her first gift during NC&#160;State\u2019s annual <a href=\"https:\/\/dayofgiving.ncsu.edu\/\">Day of Giving<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When asked which area she&#8217;d like to support, Adkins made her selection without hesitation: the Wilson College of Textiles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs a scholarship recipient myself, I\u2019ve benefited immensely from donor support,\u201d Adkins says. \u201cI wanted to pay it forward to the college that has given me so much.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Members of the Wilson College of Textiles community joined Adkins in rallying together to raise more than $1 million for students, staff, faculty and innovation in research and education on Day of Giving \u2014 for the third year in a row. In turn, the Wilson College of Textiles raised $1,194,161.98 from 612 gifts \u2014 with more than $1 million of that total amount going to support 15 college-wide scholarship funds.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Wilson College\u2019s Day of Giving donors answered the call for support by investing in our students as they shape the future of the textile industry,\u201d says David Hinks, dean of the Wilson College of Textiles. \u201cBecause of you, we will be able to provide even more impactful and meaningful experiences to our current and future students and enable them to become extraordinary think and do leaders.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-vimeo wp-block-embed-vimeo wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Thank You for #GivingPack to the Wilson College of Textiles on Day of Giving\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/691931951?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Gifts made on March 23 will empower the <a href=\"https:\/\/textiles.ncsu.edu\/giving\/nc-textile-foundation\/\">North Carolina Textile Foundation<\/a> (NCTF), which is the college\u2019s philanthropic arm, to continue awarding critical scholarships, investing in innovative research and forging collaborative partnerships with textile leaders and local entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe collective effort from our alumni, students, staff, faculty, industry partners and friends inspires our foundation\u2019s mission to advance the college through engagement, partnership and philanthropy,\u201d says Michard Ward, who serves as executive director of the NCTF. \u201cWe are truly grateful for the dedication and support that was shown this year on Day of Giving.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Wilson College of Textiles Day of Giving Highlights<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The college saw a 15% increase in the number of gifts from the 2021 Day of Giving.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Seven new Wilson College of Textiles scholarship funds were created this year on Day of Giving, including a $500,000 Centennial Scholarship Endowment funded by an anonymous donor.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>More than $70,000 was raised to support the college\u2019s two departmental funds: the <strong>Textile Engineering, Chemistry and Science (TECS) Enhancement Fund<\/strong> and the <strong>Textile and Apparel, Technology and Management (TATM) Enhancement Fund<\/strong>. These enhancement funds allow department heads to support innovative teaching, recruit talented new faculty and provide program support.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nearly $30,000 was raised for the <strong>Dean\u2019s Textiles Innovation Fund<\/strong>, which provides immediate financial assistance to areas in the college with the most critical need.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Over $2,000 went to the <strong>Textiles Diversity and Inclusion Fund<\/strong>, which supports inclusive programs, such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/textiles.ncsu.edu\/dei-mini-grants\/\">Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Mini Grant program<\/a>, and culture-building events, like the upcoming Unraveling the Truth: Celebrating Indigenous Attire panel discussion on April 12.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Wilson College of Textiles tied with the College of Engineering for first place in the 7 a.m. Most Gifts Challenge and won a Mad Libs social media challenge, which each earned the college an additional $1,000 for the Dean\u2019s Textiles Innovation Fund.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Thanks to the commitment of generous supporters on NC&#160;State\u2019s 2022 Day of Giving, the Wilson College of Textiles can continue to unlock exceptional opportunities for textiles students \u2014 today, tomorrow and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Giving back doesn\u2019t have to end on Day of Giving.
