I started in graduate medical education, working for the past six years in positions at Duke and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Most recently, I was the fellowship coordinator and division manager for Gynecologic Oncology at the UNC School of Medicine. I supported a group of fellows through the lifecycle of their training, from recruitment and onboarding, ensuring they met key milestones, to graduation and moving on to attending positions. I also supported faculty recruitment, day-to-day administrative needs for the division and coordination of visiting students.

I was interested in moving to a position that was fully focused on human resources, and I hoped to remain in the UNC System. I was also impressed by the work that the Wilson College does, how they are able to successfully blend art and creativity with science and engineering.

The Office of Human Resources oversees all aspects of human resources for the college, so I have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects on a day-to-day basis. I answer questions from student workers, as well as temporary and permanent staff and faculty, about university and college policies and procedures. I work with International Employment and the Office of International Services on visa processes for students, visiting scholars and faculty.

Recruitment for positions throughout the college is managed by our office, and I assist supervisors and new hires through interviews and onboarding. I ensure that biweekly and monthly payroll is accurate and complete and make sure employee leave is correctly entered. Every day is different based on the needs of the college.

I have been incredibly impressed by the work done by everyone at the college. Seeing the lookbooks of student projects and hearing about their internships is fascinating. I have also really enjoyed the work culture that I have experienced since I started here. Everyone is very collaborative, and I appreciate their focus on maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

I am an avid knitter and crafter. I enjoy sewing and knitting a lot of my own clothes. I also enjoy reading, windowsill gardening and spending time outside, especially in the woods and mountains.
