The entrepreneur has made a name for herself through her unique point of view and dedication to working by hand. A class project challenged her to create a garment with unconventional materials. Howell turned a vintage tapestry into a pair of pants and posted them from her personal Instagram account \u201cJust to be like, \u2018Look at these pants I made,\u2019\u201d she says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThen people were like, \u2018Oh my gosh, are you selling those? Reid NYFW event.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As demand for her designs grew, Howell decided to transfer from the fashion design program to <a href=\"https:\/\/textiles.ncsu.edu\/academics\/undergraduate\/fashion-development-and-product-management\/\">fashion development and product management<\/a> so she could learn more about the business side of fashion.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As much as she\u2019s enjoyed her time at NC&#160;State, Howell says she\u2019s looking forward to prioritizing her business full-time post-graduation. At the time, I didn\u2019t know anything. I didn&#8217;t even really know how to sew, so the concept was amazing but the construction was poor.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But he told me that my designs were really good and really encouraged me to follow my own path. He taught me how to think like an artist and take inspiration from the world around me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What was your favorite class at the Wilson College?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>My most challenging class, which I feel like has been the most important to my business, was my product development lab with <a href=\"https:\/\/textiles.ncsu.edu\/people\/kecarrol\/\">Professor Kate Annett-Hitchcock<\/a>. I was in it from my first year through last year. When I was a sophomore, I was the social media and publicity chair. I was there with all of my closest friends from college, and it was just such a great environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What\u2019s your advice for young entrepreneurs?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Start as soon as you have an idea; you don&#8217;t even have to know what you&#8217;re doing. Just start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And then don\u2019t be afraid to start asking people for advice. I was in it from my first year through last year. When I was a sophomore, I was the social media and publicity chair. I was there with all of my closest friends from college, and it was just such a great environment.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:heading {\"level\":4} -->\n<h4><strong>What\u2019s your advice for young entrepreneurs?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h4>\n<!-- \/wp:heading -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Start as soon as you have an idea; you don't even have to know what you're doing. Just start.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>And then don\u2019t be afraid to start asking people for advice.
