Upon completing my master&#8217;s degree in December 2022, I decided to further my studies and expertise so I started my Ph.D. study in fiber and polymer science.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Being an analytical chemist at heart, I worked part-time under the mentorship of Birgit Anderson, the former manager of the Analytical Lab. Subsequently, when Birgit retired, I assumed her responsibilities temporarily. I waited for the department to find a replacement for Birgit, not thinking at all that I could fulfill this role. Dr. Joines and Dr. Vinueza extended an encouraging invitation to apply for the role. Fueled by their confidence in my abilities, I submitted my application. I ended up getting this position! Yay!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why were you interested in this position \/ in working at the Wilson College?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>My enthusiasm for this position and my choice to be a part of the Wilson College can be attributed to a combination of compelling factors. Primarily, my deep-seated interest in collaborating on research projects with graduate students and esteemed faculty members propels my drive. Furthermore, the inviting atmosphere at the Wilson College holds significant appeal. Being a student here, the genuine kindness and approachability of individuals across the board create an environment that nurtures personal and professional growth. The culture of collaboration here is not only invigorating but also instrumental in fostering a sense of belonging and shared purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What are your duties on a day-to-day basis?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The lab functions not only as a resource for graduate students to obtain data for their M.S. thesis or Ph.D. dissertation work, but is also utilized for teaching and service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sample testing, client interaction and communication.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Conducting instrument trainings for students to have hands-on experience.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Maintaining instruments.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assisting professors with labs.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Collaborating with a diverse clientele of internal (including other NC&#160;State colleges) as well as external industry sponsors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is your favorite part of your job and\/or working at the Wilson College of Textiles?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Without a doubt, one of the most fulfilling aspects of my role and my time here at the Wilson College is the privilege of interacting with and supporting both students and faculty members. Being able to contribute to their academic journeys and witnessing their growth firsthand is incredibly rewarding. Working closely with students, whether they&#8217;re pursuing their graduate studies or are part of the undergraduate community, offers a unique opportunity to be a part of their learning experiences.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I absolutely love the opportunity to learn from them as well.
