What is your fondest memory of being at NC State and the Wilson College of Textiles?

My favorite memory as a student at the Wilson College of Textiles is my study abroad experience in Prague! While studying abroad, I was able to explore a new culture and broaden my global fashion/textile perspective. I went with several other students from Wilson College and took a fashion photography course and a textile engineering class.

Both courses were very hands-on and required field trips to museums, historic landmarks, universities and fashion exhibits. My experience studying in Prague left me with unforgettable memories, lifelong friendships and an appreciation for textiles through the lens of a new culture.

Who influenced you most during your time at the Wilson College of Textiles?

During my time at the Wilson College of Textiles, my peers were my biggest influences. Witnessing the dedication and drive of my classmates motivated me to push myself beyond my limits to strive for excellence in my pursuits. Together, we celebrated achievements, navigated challenges, and built relationships that made my college years genuinely transformative.

I’m very grateful to have been surrounded by a group of high-achieving and supportive classmates — many of whom I’m still close with today!

How did your education at the Wilson College of Textiles prepare you for what you are doing today?

The education I received from the Wilson College of Textiles played a pivotal role in preparing me for my career. The college provided a comprehensive curriculum that combined theoretical knowledge with hands-on practical experiences.

The specialized courses gave me a strong foundation in textile science, engineering, color chemistry, business, sustainability and more. These technical skills have been instrumental in my professional career, allowing me to understand the intricacies of the apparel industry and use this knowledge to make informed decisions on the product lines that I help manage. Furthermore, my coursework promoted interdisciplinary collaboration, exposing me to different perspectives and fostering teamwork skills. This prepared me for the collaborative nature of the professional world, where working effectively with other teams is essential.

Lastly, the Wilson College of Textiles offered numerous networking opportunities, industry partnerships, and internship opportunities, which allowed me to gain practical experience and make valuable connections within the fashion, apparel and textile industries. These experiences bolstered my resume and gave me real-world applications of knowledge that I gained in the classroom.

What activities were you involved in as an NC State student and how did they impact your experience?

I was involved in several organizations related to my major, such as the Fashion Club and Spanish Club, as well as serving as NC State’s student ambassador for the NRF Foundation. These provided opportunities for networking, skill development, and gaining practical experience as a student. Additionally, I was awarded a Centennial Scholarship and was involved with student government and the Delta Gamma Sorority. These roles helped me develop leadership skills and taught me how to collaborate with my peers effectively.

Participating in undergraduate research at the Wilson College allowed me to shadow a professor and contribute to research in apparel supply chain literature. Overall, my college activities enriched my university experience by helping me grow personally and professionally– while also providing me with memories that will last a lifetime!

In what ways are you currently involved with the Wilson College of Textiles and NC State?

As a graduate, I have been able to assist in the Centennial Scholarship application process as both an application reviewer and interviewer. Additionally, I’ve been able to mentor students through the Wilson College of Textiles Blend Mentorship Program. Although I don’t live in Raleigh anymore, I still make it a point to come back and visit campus several times a year, most importantly for football season and the Textile Bowl.
