Congratulations to two students in the Textile Apparel, Technology and Management Department who were recognized for their talent and philanthropy at the 2015 Couture for a Cause held Nov. 7 at the Raleigh Convention Center.

The event paired 20 designers with local charities through the nonprofit organization Activate Good, which connects thousands of volunteers to lend a hand at over 300 charities around the Triangle each year. The designers had to create two looks, one ready-to-wear and one couture, that represented their partner organizations. Savannah Fender, a Master of Science in Textiles student, won the Ready-to-Wear designer award; she worked with the organization Benevolence Farm. Sharae Hines, a student in Fashion and Textile Design-Textile Design, won the Couture Look and Philanthropy award for raising the most money, a total of $2,085 for the North Carolina Harm Reduction Coalition. Participants were required to collect at least $200 dollars for their respective charities.

Congratulations to Savannah and Sharae for their outstanding work!
