Bryan Ormond began at the Wilson College of Textiles as a student. He earned his B.S. in polymer and color chemistry<\/a> with an ACS certification<\/a> in 2007, followed by his Ph.D in fiber and polymer science<\/a> in 2012. Since joining the college as a faculty member, Ormond\u2019s passion has advanced research for firefighter and first responder safety, specifically in the area of PPE (personal protective equipment) for firefighters. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Ormond\u2019s long-term involvement in the Textile Protection and Comfort Center<\/a> with extensive research on firefighter health and safety has not only earned him a reputable space in the textile industry, but also among the Wilson College of Textiles faculty and staff. He received the 2024 Distinguished Young Alumni award<\/a>, Goodnight Early Career Innovators Award<\/a> (2023) and an Alumni Distinguished Undergraduate Professor<\/a> award (2024). <\/p>\n\n\n\n Through his extensive research involving analytical chemistry and color sciences, Nelson Vinueza was recruited to the Wilson College of Textiles through the Chancellor\u2019s Excellence Faculty Program<\/a>. Vinueza\u2019s research spans multiple areas of speciality, from understanding degenerative diseases in humans to the sustainability and breakdown of dyes in the environment. His largest ongoing research project involves cataract research with the University of California at San Fransisco and is currently funded by the National Institutes of Health<\/a> (NIH). <\/p>\n\n\n\n Vinueza currently manages the Max A. Weaver Dye Library<\/a> as well as his own research lab, Vinueza Labs<\/a>, at the Wilson College of Textiles. His interdisciplinary approach to color and chemistry provides students with unique research opportunities and connections within the textile industry.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n With over 40 years of experience in the fashion and textile industry, Andre West\u2019s involvement at the Wilson College of Textiles has enhanced student involvement and interest in diverse areas of research such as sustainability, artificial intelligence and insect repellency in fabric. His projects have garnered attention from the Department of Defense, the United States Digital Service (USDS) and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which have provided exciting opportunities for advancement in research for West and his students.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n West currently holds the position of director of the Zeis Textile Extension (ZTE)<\/a>, and has continued to enhance research and testing opportunities through TexLabs services for alumni and industry members.
