Rosemary Edberg

Rosemary Edberg is from Mora, Minn., and graduated from Mora Junior-Senior High School. She was awarded a North Carolina Textile Foundation Centennial Scholarship. She also earned a Park Scholarship through NC State University. She is studying Textile Engineering.

“To be a Centennial Scholar means that I have the support of the Wilson College of Textiles and its donors. I know that the COT will support my academic endeavors, and because of that, I can’t wait to get involved in textile student organizations, as well as undergraduate research. I hope to demonstrate my gratefulness to the North Carolina Textile Foundation through being the best student I can be,” she said.

Rosemary took college courses through St. Cloud State University and the University of Minnesota. She specifically enjoyed her chemistry and calculus classes and the challenges they presented. She participated in a variety of activities including Minnesota 4-H; Wind Band; Student Council; the Minnesota Youth Council, FFA; the Student Advisory Council Committee to the Minnesota Department of Education; and National Honor Society, while holding officer positions in all organizations. She volunteered at the Vasaloppet, her town’s annual ski race, and planned her school’s food drive. Rosemary also received the title of Saint Lucia in 2014. She participated in track and field, ran cross country, and enjoys Nordic skiing. She also has her own sheep breeding business, an endeavor which actually led her to NC State.

“I knew that I wanted to be working with fibers and textiles since eighth grade. I raise sheep for their wool and clean, wash, card, spin, and knit their wool. While searching for colleges, I looked up ‘fiber school’ on the internet and NC State popped up!” she said.

Rosemary attended the College’s residential Summer Textile Exploration Program (STEP) the summer before her senior year and that experience sold her on the College. “I fell in love with the school and the program. There’s no place I would rather be! Even though NC State is far from my home in Minnesota, it already feels like a have a new community that supports me!”
