Kathryn Carter<\/b>, Raleigh, N.C., graduated from Needham B. Broughton High School. She has been awarded the Westpoint Pepperell <\/span>Centennial Scholarship<\/span> and will study <\/span>Fashion and Textile Management<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201c<\/span>Being a Centennial Scholar means setting an example in leadership in every manner within the <\/span>Wilson College of Textiles<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>NC State University<\/span><\/a> Through the skills that I have acquired and will further acquire as a Centennial Scholar, I aim to lead other students to be academic scholars and good citizens within the community, in order to uphold the prestige of the Wilson College of Textiles within the global industry,\u201d she says.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n Kathryn has taken Advanced Placement courses, including world history, environmental science, English language and composition, English literature and composition, psychology, U.S. history, calculus, chemistry, human geography and Spanish. Kathryn participated in a variety of activities including Service Club, Spanish Club, Spanish Honor Society, National Honor Society, DECA, and was head editor on Broughton Latipac Yearbook Staff for two years. She has also volunteered at the Agua Viva Children\u2019s Home in Guatemala for four summers. Kathryn enjoys lacrosse, basketball, singing and artistic calligraphy.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n Kathryn looks forward to being a part of the Wilson College of Textiles which she notes was appealing to her because it has, \u201c<\/span>established a familial atmosphere among its students, faculty, and staff.\u201d She also comments that she her decision to chose NC State was impacted because, \u201cnumerous employers recruit from the Wilson College of Textiles at NC State due to its excellence in academics, training students in job skills, and providing opportunities for students to get involved in the industry throughout their studies at the college.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
