Eligibility + Endorsement
Who is eligible to apply for Textiles scholarships?
To be eligible for any incoming first-year Textiles scholarship, you must:
- Apply for fall, first-year admission into any baccalaureate program at NC State by the Early Action deadline (Nov. 1).
- Submit an endorsement (if not otherwise granted access to the scholarship application). Find out if you need to be endorsed.
- Fill out NC State’s general scholarship application.
- Complete the Textiles first-year scholarship application by Jan. 4. Filling out this application will enter you into consideration for all Textiles scholarships you are eligible for.
If I attended an early college high school, do I qualify for first-year scholarships or transfer scholarships?
It depends on how you apply for admission. NC State’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions typically recommends that students who graduated from a North Carolina early college apply as first-year students, as long as they haven’t taken any college courses since graduating from high school. At NC State, a first-year applicant is defined as someone who is entering college for the first time, regardless of how many credits they bring in.
If you apply as a first-year student by the Nov. 1 Early Action deadline, you’ll be eligible to apply for our first-year scholarships. If you choose to apply as a transfer student instead, you’ll only be eligible for transfer scholarships.
Undergraduate Admissions offers additional recommendations for early college students.
Do I need to be endorsed to apply for Textiles scholarships?
It depends. If you apply to NC State by the Early Action deadline (Nov. 1) and select a Wilson College of Textiles major as your first choice, you do not need to submit an endorsement. All Summer Textile Exploration Program (STEP) and TexTEC attendees who apply for admission by the Early Action deadline do not need to submit an endorsement either.
If you do not fall into one of those two categories but would still like to be considered for Textiles scholarships, you must be endorsed in one of the following ways by Nov. 10:
- Teacher or counselor endorsement
- Self-endorsement
If you need to be endorsed, please submit only one endorsement. Endorsement simply grants you access to the scholarship application. How you’re endorsed does not affect your chances of receiving a scholarship.
I received an email letting me know I’ve been endorsed for a Textiles scholarship. What does this mean?
Congratulations! Being endorsed means you’ll have access to the Textiles scholarship application when it opens on Dec. 1, provided that you apply to NC State by the Early Action deadline (Nov. 1).
An endorsement does not guarantee you will receive a Textiles scholarship, just that you’re eligible to complete the scholarship application. Review the application information and application process timeline on our site to make sure you’re applying correctly and not missing any deadlines.
I believe I might qualify for the financial need-based scholarships. What should I do?
To be considered for any of our financial need-based scholarships, you must submit your Free Application For Federal and Student Aid (FAFSA) by Jan. 31 in addition to completing the other steps in our application process.
A number of other departments and offices at NC State offer their own scholarships that you may want to consider, as well.
Do I have to apply to a Textiles major to be eligible for these scholarships?
No, you do not have to apply to a Textiles major to be considered for these scholarships.
However, if you are selected as a finalist and receive a scholarship offer, you must change your major to a Textiles program in order to accept the award.
Can I be a Textiles Scholar and a Park or Goodnight Scholar?
Yes! You can be a part of multiple programs, and we highly encourage you to consider them.
If you were selected for multiple programs and accepted both, you would receive the scholarship from the other program (either Park or Goodnight) as well as the enrichment grant from the Textiles Scholarship Program. You would be invited to participate in programming for both scholarship programs.
Are there additional scholarships or financial aid opportunities I should know about?
We encourage you to visit NC State’s Scholarship and Financial Aid website to explore other resources and opportunities that can help you invest in your education.
Application
Where do I apply for Textiles scholarships?
The Textiles first-year scholarship application is available in Pack ASSIST. However, you may need to submit an endorsement to access it. Find out if you need to be endorsed.
What should I do once the application opens on Dec. 1?
We strongly recommend logging into Pack ASSIST as soon as you receive your login credentials to ensure you can access it without issues. NC State closes for winter break for roughly two weeks, so support may not be available if you encounter login problems close to the application deadline.
I am in Pack ASSIST, but I don’t see the Textiles first-year scholarship application. What should I do?
You should see the Textiles scholarship application after you’ve fully completed and submitted NC State’s general scholarship application. If you don’t see the Textiles scholarship application appear on your dashboard within 24 hours of submitting the general scholarship application, please reach out to us at textiles-scholarships@ncsu.edu.
I’ve submitted my scholarship application, now what?
Thank you for applying! The application will close on Sunday, Jan. 4 at 11:59 p.m. After that, a committee of volunteers (including Wilson College faculty, staff, alumni, board members and industry partners) will review and rank all applications.
The top 60 applicants will be named finalists and invited to participate in our annual Textiles Scholarship Interview Weekend.
Do you consider grades as part of my application?
Yes. Since our scholarships are merit-based, we do consider your weighted and unweighted high school grade point average as part of the application review.
Because NC State is currently test-optional, standardized test scores are not considered. A successful Textiles scholarship applicant is also a competitive applicant to NC State University.
Am I applying to each scholarship individually?
No. You only need to complete one application to be considered for all incoming first-year Textiles scholarships. You are not applying to specific scholarships individually.
Because some scholarships have different eligibility criteria, if you are selected as a finalist, we will determine which scholarships you qualify for during our review process.
I applied to the Wilson College of Textiles and was admitted, but I want to take a gap year. Can I apply for a scholarship next year when I plan to enroll?
No. Scholarship applications must be submitted during the same admission cycle in which you apply to the university. Students who defer their enrollment are not eligible to apply for Textiles scholarships in a future cycle.
Finalists
How many finalists are there?
Each year, we invite 60 finalists to participate in the Textiles Scholarship Interview Weekend (Interview Weekend).
When will I be notified if I’ve been named as a finalist?
We will notify all applicants of their status via email during the week of Jan. 26. An applicant will fall into one of these three categories:
- Finalist: invited to participate in Interview Weekend.
- Alternate: could be invited to participate in Interview Weekend if finalists decline their invitation.
- No longer being considered for a Textiles scholarship.
Do I have to attend Interview Weekend in person?
Yes. The expectation is that all finalists participate in Interview Weekend in person.
In extenuating circumstances, or for those unable to arrange travel from out of state, we may be able to make an exception to allow for virtual interviews. We will assess exceptions on a case-by-case basis.
I can’t make the Interview Weekend dates. Can I reschedule?
Unfortunately, we are not able to offer alternate interview dates. Due to the scale and coordination required for Interview Weekend, we are unable to accommodate rescheduling. If you cannot participate in Interview Weekend, we kindly ask that you decline your offer to participate to allow an alternate a chance to attend.
I participated in the Interview Weekend and received a scholarship, but I want to take a gap year. Can I defer and accept my scholarship next year?
No. Scholarship availability can vary from year to year, so awards cannot be deferred. If you are awarded a Textiles scholarship, you must enroll full-time in a Textiles major for the upcoming academic year in order to receive it.
If you choose to take a gap year, you will need to forfeit your award.
However, if you plan to defer enrollment for one semester only, we may be able to accommodate your situation, since you would still be enrolling in the same academic cycle. These decisions are made on a case-by-case basis.
Will I receive a scholarship if I attend the Textiles Scholarship Interview Weekend?
Yes! All finalists who participate in Interview Weekend will receive a scholarship. The value of the scholarship will vary depending on your final ranking in the selection process.
Interview Weekend
When and where does Textiles Scholarship Interview Weekend take place?

Do I have to stay at The StateView Hotel?

You will not be seated with anyone who will be interviewing you on Saturday, so relax and have a great time!
What should I wear to the reception and dinner?
This is considered a professional event. Finalists and their guests should wear business/professional appropriate attire.
Where should I park on Interview Day?
We encourage you to park in the Partners I Lot, which is next to The Corner (colorful pods in the grassy area on the corner of Main Campus Drive and Research Drive).
If the Partners I Lot is full, we recommend parking in the Oval West Deck, directly next to it.
You can park for free in any parking space marked for a “C” permit after 5 p.m. and on weekends. No permit is required.
Where do I go when I arrive at the Textiles Complex on Interview Day?
Volunteers will greet you in front of the Textiles Complex and direct you to the proper location for check-in.
Please be mindful of what time you should arrive based on your assigned session.
How long will Interview Day last?
If you are invited to Interview Weekend, you will be assigned to either the morning session or the afternoon session.
The morning session will begin with breakfast at 8 a.m. and will conclude at 11:15 a.m., followed by lunch. The afternoon session will begin at 11 a.m. for check-in and lunch, and conclude at 2:30 p.m.
If you are attending the morning session, you have to attend breakfast, but lunch is optional. If you’re attending the afternoon session, you must come to lunch.
Review your specific schedule for a more detailed breakdown of the day.
What will the interview format be?
All finalists will complete three rounds of interviews. Each interview will be conducted by two Wilson College affiliates (staff, faculty, alumni, etc.) and last 20 minutes.
There is a minimum five-minute buffer between each interview so that you have time to walk to the next interview location or back to the Convocation Center to wait for your next interview.
What are interviewers looking for in the next class of Textiles Scholars?
This interview is just another opportunity to share who you are and the vision you have for your future. The scholarship panel is looking not only at your qualifications, but also your passion, your authenticity and how you’ll contribute to the Wilson College community, the textile industry and beyond.
Will food be provided on Interview Day?
Yes. For finalists participating in morning interviews, a continental breakfast and lunch buffet will be provided. For finalists participating in afternoon interviews, a lunch buffet will be provided. Menus will have accommodations for any reported dietary restrictions and allergies.
If you are invited to the morning interviews, you must attend breakfast, but the lunch is optional. If you are invited to the afternoon interviews, you must attend lunch.
How will I be able to find my interview rooms?
A Wilson College of Textiles Scholar will escort you to each interview location. They will have a copy of your schedule to make sure that you get to each interview on time.
What should I bring to Interview Day?
Bring the name tag you received on Friday evening. If you are unable to attend the dinner on Friday, your name tag will be provided at check-in on Saturday.
What will my guests do on Interview Day?
On Interview Day, your guests will tour the Textiles Complex and learn more about the career services, campus resources and amazing opportunities available to Wilson College students.
You and your guests will also have the opportunity to chat with some current Textiles Scholars about their experiences at Wilson!
What should I wear to Interview Day?
This is considered a professional event. Finalists and their guests should wear business/professional appropriate attire.
