James Omer Heracklis

James Omer Heracklis – from Gastonia, NC graduated from Forestview High School. Jimmy has been awarded one of only ten North Carolina Textile Foundation Centennial Scholarships to study in a textile degree program at NC State. The Centennial scholarship is the largest college-based scholarship offered at NC State University and is valued at nearly $48,000. As a part of this scholarship, Jimmy will have access to $7,500 in enrichment funds for educational and cultural activities beyond the classroom, such as study abroad, career exploration trips and attending leadership conferences. For the past two summers, Jimmy has attended residential research programs sponsored by the NC School of Science and Math. His research involved the use of covalent linking to an isoendoquinone to be used in artificial photosynthesis, and also with the use of optical brighteners on cottons in laundry detergent. Jimmy was an avid member of his high school band; he was trumpet section leader and brass captain. He was also a member of the National Beta club and the National Honor Society. All four years of Jimmy’s high school career, he played on the JV or Varsity Baseball team. Along with that he also was a top seven runner on the Varsity Cross Country team. Jimmy intends to major in Engineering.
