Kara Jean Styles

Kara Jean Styles – from Windber, PA graduated from Forest Hills High School. Kara has been awarded one of only ten North Carolina Textile Foundation Centennial Scholarships to study in a textile degree program at NC State. The Centennial scholarship is the largest college-based scholarship offered at NC State University and is valued at nearly $48,000. As a part of this scholarship, Kara will have access to $7,500 in enrichment funds for educational and cultural activities beyond the classroom, such as study abroad, career exploration trips and attending leadership conferences. Kara was accepted into the Cambria County Outstanding Young Women Scholarship Program, she was awarded the Scholarship and Achievement Award. Kara is largely committed to the National Honor Society, and Students against Destructive Decisions. She is co-president of the National Spanish Honor Society. Kara has been an avid member of the Cross Country and Track teams for four years, being captain during the 2007 season. Relay for Life is a community service activity that Kara has passionately participated in for four years. Kara is passionate about dance and has taken dance classes for 12 years. Kara attended the Summer Textile Exploration Program during the summer of 2007 at the Wilson College of Textiles. She intends to major in Textile Engineering.
