2017 Wilson College Bookmark Competition to Celebrate Carter-Finley

As NC State celebrates the 50th anniversary of Carter-Finley Stadium, it is especially fitting for the Wilson College of Textiles to commemorate this historic milestone and the contributions of the Carter family in a way only textiles can: through the creation of an anniversary bookmark that incorporates Carter-Finley into the design. All students, faculty, staff and alumni are invited to participate in a our bookmark competition. This year’s winner will receive a $50 prize.

Wilbert J. “Nick” Carter (‘24) and Harry C. Carter (‘32) were both graduates of what was then the School of Textiles at NC State College. The Carter brothers were textile industry leaders whose dedication to their alma mater helped shape the Wilson College of Textiles as we know it today. Their philanthropy and Nick’s pivotal role as a founding member and the first president of the North Carolina Textile Foundation – the nonprofit organization that has provided support and direction to the Wilson College of Textiles since 1942 – set the stage for decades of student and faculty success. Since the first was produced in 1960, our woven bookmarks have become a something of a collector’s item among COT alumni and friends as well as people throughout NC State and the UNC system. They are eagerly anticipated each year by those who normally receive them and gratefully accepted by College visitors from around the world. Traditionally, the designs were produced by graduating seniors. But last year, we opened the competition to all COT students, faculty and staff. This year, we expand the competition to include our talented alumni. We anticipate we will produce and distribute more than 4,000 bookmarks featuring the winning design.

To be considered, the design should meet the following requirements

• 2-4 color graphic file or simulation (jpg or tiff) – see color information below
• 50mm x 205 mm rectangle (approximately 1.75 in x 6.5 in finished woven dimensions)

Submissions should also feature:

• The year: “2017”
• Some visual element of Carter-Finley Stadium
• “50th Anniversary of Carter-Finley”
• The Wilson College of Textiles logo or the words “Wilson College of Textiles” – Students, faculty and staff can access the acceptable logos on the P drive.

Text should be consistent throughout your design: either all Arial or all Univers

All designs must be submitted by Nov. 4, 2016. The Bookmark Committee will review the submissions and select a winning entry.

Color Information

You may use 2 to 4 colors in your design from the three palettes below.

• Up to 3 colors from the Core Palette and Accent Grays Palette
• Up to 1 color from the Expanded Color Palette

If your design is selected, please keep in mind that modifications may be necessary due to weaving specifications.

When the bookmarks are distributed, they will be accompanied by a letter that introduces recipients to the designer.
