Learning to Lead

Over the past year, almost two dozen women at the Wilson College of Textiles have benefited from professional development grants through the Ellen Rohde Leadership Initiative. Female students, faculty and staff have been able to network and learn through travel to conferences, workshops and research opportunities worldwide as a result of these grants, honing their leadership skills and widening their career paths.

Marguerite Moore Receives Distinguished Graduate Professorship Award

Department of Textile and Apparel, Technology and Management (TATM) professor Marguerite Moore has been named a 2018-2019 NC State Alumni Association Distinguished Graduate Professor in recognition of her outstanding teaching at the graduate level. She is known for her high-quality research as well as her exceptional graduate student mentoring.

Two Ph.D. Students Receive VF Assistantships

When NC State and VF Corporation announced a collaborative, strategic partnership in January 2018, one of the goals was to support student development at NC State. To that end, two College of Textiles Ph.D. students have been named recipients of the VF Graduate Assistantship in Apparel and Footwear. This award supports outstanding graduate students conducting research on emerging and advanced topics in apparel and footwear of interest to VF, home to such brands as Reef, Wrangler and The North Face.

Dressed for Success

College of Textiles doctoral student Emily Law wonders if changing your outfit can change your perspective -- or even your life. Her master’s thesis research indicated that clothing choice has a notable effect on student participation and focus, and is taking her research to the next level and further examining the psychology of fashion.
