Meet Young Alumna Rysa Ruth

For young alumna Rysa Ruth, her path to a fulfilling career was not exactly a straight line. After graduation from the Wilson College of Textiles in 2017 with a B.S. in  Fashion and Textile Design (FTD), she held two diverging positions before moving to New York City to work as an assistant designer and CAD designer at PPI Apparel Group.

Learning to Lead

Over the past year, almost two dozen women at the Wilson College of Textiles have benefited from professional development grants through the Ellen Rohde Leadership Initiative. Female students, faculty and staff have been able to network and learn through travel to conferences, workshops and research opportunities worldwide as a result of these grants, honing their leadership skills and widening their career paths.

Selling Style II: The History of Fashion Marketing in the 20th Century  

At the turn of the last century, a pair of redheaded sisters launched themselves into Edwardian-era English society -- and fashion was never the same. Provocative novelist, scriptwriter and magazine columnist Elinor Glyn popularized the concept of the It Girl -- a young woman with both the innocent intrigue of the ingenue and the sex appeal of the siren. The It Girl has been exemplified over the years by Clara Bow, Lana Turner, Marilyn Monroe, Edie Sedgwick, Kate Moss and others.

Patternmaker: Meet FTD Alumna Caitlin Gabriel ‘17

Wilson College of Textiles alumna Caitlin Gabriel ‘17 learned to sew at an early age. Her grandmother taught her to sew and follow patterns at just eight years old, and she has been designing and creating her own clothes ever since. We caught up with the Fashion and Textile Design (FTD) graduate, who recently started working as a patternmaker at Wrangler
