Dr. Katherine Annett-Hitchcock Receives NC State Outstanding Teacher Award 

Dr. Katherine Annett-Hitchcock, associate professor in the Wilson College of Textiles at NC State University, has received an NC State Outstanding Teacher Award for 2019-2020. 

Recipients of the NC State Outstanding Teacher Award are selected for their excellence in teaching at all levels. The award is a prerequisite for consideration for the Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching and the Alumni Distinguished Professor Award. Awardees become a member of the Academy of Outstanding Teachers at NC State.

Annett-Hitchcock joined the Wilson College of Textiles in 2008 as an assistant professor in the Department of Textile and Apparel, Technology and Management, after having served four years as an assistant professor at East Carolina University. She was promoted to associate professor with tenure in 2015.

Since joining the college, Annett-Hitchcock has been a tireless supporter of students, encouraging them to engage in undergraduate research and helping them envision their future in the textiles industry. As a successful mentor to both her undergraduate and graduate students, she provides the tools for her students to win awards in juried creative competitions, work toward bringing their research developments to market and present their work at national and international conferences.

Outside of the classroom Annett-Hitchcock serves as an academic advisor to the Advancement of Women Entrepreneurs at NC State, an organization that provides networking opportunities and resources for women students and faculty to succeed in their fields. She also serves on a number of committees, including one that works to strengthen the Fashion Design and the Fashion Development and Product Management programs to improve student success in the textile industry.

One student wrote, “Dr. Hitchcock respects the limits of what her students already know and can do, but she also pushed them to be the best they can be and do their best work.”
