Kendall Boone

  • Position: Sponsored Projects Specialist
  • Department: Research Office
  • Hometown: Bel Air, Maryland

What was your path to this position?

I am a proud NC State alumna. I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts in political science in 2022 and my Master of Public Administration in 2024. While completing my master’s, I interned at the Proposal Development Unit (PDU) on campus where I developed an interest in research administration. A month or so before graduation I came across this position at the Wilson College, and now I’m here!

Why were you interested in this position / in working at the Wilson College?

Since developing an interest in research administration, I knew I wanted to work at a university. I’ve always loved NC State, so when my supervisor at the PDU sent me this job I jumped at the opportunity to apply.

As for my interest in the Wilson College more specifically, along with sending me the job posting, my supervisor at the PDU told me that she always enjoyed working with the faculty/staff here and thought it would be a good fit for me. After my interviews for the position, I knew exactly what she meant. I also have a family tie to the Wilson College, as my grandfather graduated from the then-College of Textiles in 1971.

What are your duties on a day-to-day basis?

I work on the pre-award side of the research office along with Meredith and Jennifer. I assist faculty with the proposal application process through proposal submission. This includes, but is not limited to, reading and revising application documents, creating project budgets and ensuring the proposal package complies with university policies/standards. I also send out potential funding opportunities to Wilson College faculty.

What is your favorite part of your job and/or working at the Wilson College of Textiles?

The atmosphere and culture of my team in the research office and the Wilson College, in general, are my favorite part of my job. Everyone I have met has been so welcoming and helpful. I couldn’t ask for better!

What do you like to do outside of work?

Outside work, I love supporting NC State athletics, traveling and reading!
