Monica Jeanne Matthai – from Apex, NC graduated from Athens Drive High School. Monica has been awarded one of only ten North Carolina Textile Foundation Centennial Scholarships to study in a textile degree program at NC State. The Centennial scholarship is the largest college-based scholarship offered at NC State University and is valued at nearly $48,000. As a part of this scholarship, Monica will have access to $7,500 in enrichment funds for educational and cultural activities beyond the classroom, such as study abroad and career exploration trips. Monica Matthai Monica was a part of the Honor Code Committee in the National Honors Society. She was also selected as a Marshal by her school and was an active member in the French club. Monica services her community through participation in the 3D-Project Jazz Company and the March of Dimes. Monica devotes herself to jazz dance where she trains, teaches, and participates in a non-profit company. Teaching dance to younger students allows Monica to pass on her passion and be employed in something she adores. In her free time Monica enjoys sewing various items such as drapes, pillows and clothes. Monica also attended the Summer Textile Exploration Program at the Wilson College of Textiles. Monica intends to participate in the N.C. State Modern Dance Company, and she intends to major in Fashion and Textile Management.
