Monica Renee Golike

Monica Renee Golike – from New Bern, NC graduated fifth in her class from New Bern High School. Monica has been awarded one of only ten North Carolina Textile Foundation Centennial Scholarships to study in a textile degree program at NC State. The Centennial scholarship is the largest college-based scholarship offered at NC State University and is valued at nearly $48,000. As a part of this scholarship, Monica will have access to $7,500 in enrichment funds for educational and cultural activities beyond the classroom, such as study abroad, career exploration trips and attending leadership conferences. Due to Monica’s hard work in her academics she has been on the Principle’s List throughout high school and was selected to be a graduation marshal. She is the current vice president of the National Honor Society. Monica is very involved with Habitat for Humanity. Monica is also extremely involved in her church. She was on the cross country team, swim team, and soccer teams all four years of high-school; she received All Conference this year in soccer. Monica currently holds the position of captain on all three teams. During the summer of 2007, Monica attended the Summer Textile Exploration Program at the Wilson College of Textiles. She intends to major in Textile Engineering with a focus on product engineering.
