Meredith Jeffers

  • Position: Sponsored Projects Development Specialist
  • Department: Dean’s Office
  • Hometown: Rochester, New York

What was your path to this position?

My own background is in English and creative writing, and during my first graduate program, I held an assistantship in my college’s research office, where I learned about research administration and proposal development firsthand.

This opportunity led me to NC State, where I originally held this exact position from June 2018 until June 2020. I briefly left the workforce to return to graduate school as a full-time student and pursue my Master of Science in library science, and now that I’ve earned my degree, I’ve officially returned to Wilson College!

Why were you interested in this position / in working at the Wilson College?

I was so happy to return to Wilson College in large part because of the culture here and the innovative, interesting research that comes out of our departments. It is the perfect place for me to put my new library skills to use.

What are your duties on a day-to-day basis?

It may be a little cliché, but no day is that same for me! I handle the pre-award research administration — so, helping faculty with budgets, creating and assembling supplementary forms, and so on — but I also perform proposal development services, which allow me to dive more deeply into the actual editing with faculty.

What is your favorite part of your job and/or working at the Wilson College of Textiles?

I love getting to work collaboratively, either in my own office or with faculty as we work to find, prepare, and submit the best-fit grant proposals.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I’m an avid reader and writer, and watcher of very bad reality TV.
