Day of Giving Donors Power the Future for Textiles Students, Programs and Research
On March 26, members of the Wilson College of Textiles community came together to raise over $1 million for the sixth consecutive year to provide critical support for scholarships, academic programs, research and other college-wide funds.

This spring, the Wilson College of Textiles community proved once again that when we come together, we can achieve extraordinary things.
On NC State’s seventh annual Day of Giving, the Wilson College of Textiles received $1,012,414 from 545 gifts. Support from donors will foster talent, fuel research excellence, bolster essential programs and strengthen the textile industry in North Carolina and around the globe.
Day of Giving gifts will also help the college sustain its most valuable asset: students.
“Day of Giving gifts allow us to remain agile in meeting our students’ unique needs and investing in their future.”
“This investment in the Wilson College of Textiles will directly enhance our students’ experiences and education,” says Michael Ward, executive director of the North Carolina Textile Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Wilson College of Textiles. “Gifts made on Day of Giving allow us to remain agile in meeting our students’ unique needs and investing in their future.”
The college’s enthusiastic participation contributed to NC State’s overall Day of Giving success. Across the university, the Wolfpack raised $50,563,357 from 18,565 gifts, marking NC State’s second-highest Day of Giving in both dollars and gifts.
This success on Day of Giving reaffirms how the Wilson College of Textiles’ story is interwoven with that of NC State, North Carolina and the nation.
Challenges unlocked and milestones reached
In addition to raising over $1 million for the sixth year in a row, the Wilson College of Textiles secured several challenge-based gifts on Day of Giving:
- Nancy Webster Centennial Scholarship Challenge: Nancy Webster ’75, president of the North Carolina Textile Foundation (NCTF) Board of Directors, generously gave $40,000 to support the Centennial Scholarship Program after the college received $40,000 to the NCTF Centennial Scholarship Endowment.
- Hope Corrigan TATM Department Challenge: Proud alumna Hope Bober-Corrigan ’84 generously donated $50,000 to establish the Bober-Corrigan Family Fashion Studio Endowment after the TATM Enhancement Fund received 25 gifts on Day of Giving.
- The college won two university-wide challenges: the 12 p.m. First-Time Donor Challenge (won by Pam Smith) and the Why I Give Challenge (won by Edith Tenesaca-Mejia), earning an additional $1,500 in challenge funds for the Dean’s Textiles Innovation Fund.
With these wins and a strong leaderboard ranking, the college received a total of $2,157 in additional funding to help unlock bigger opportunities and create a deeper impact for students and the future of textiles.
Why our supporters give back and pay it forward
Every Day of Giving donor has a reason that fuels their generosity.
For some supporters, it’s gratitude for the scholarships they received that helped them succeed. For others, it’s a passion for innovation, a commitment to creating a sense of belonging or a desire to advance research that drives the future of the textile industry.
Why they give annually
“Growing up, it was never a question of where I was going to college, only what I needed to do to get into NC State,” says Wil King, a senior majoring in fashion and textile management, who is following in the footsteps of his grandfather, father and uncle. “Once I got here, I came in with love for the university, but I found even more once I discovered the amazing Wilson College of Textiles.”
He continued, “That’s what’s inspired me to give back on Day of Giving. This is actually my fourth year donating, but it’s definitely the most exciting since I got to contribute to the Senior Class Gift. I love giving back to this college, and I can’t wait to one day pass down that love to my own kids, just like my dad did for me.”
Support on Day of Giving will empower the Wilson College of Textiles to:
- Award over 100 life-changing student scholarships each year
- Offer students an unparalleled, hands-on education
- Recruit world-class faculty and staff who are experts in their fields
- Conduct groundbreaking research that tackles society’s greatest challenges
Donors are the reason the Wilson College of Textiles can continuously move forward.
