Little did the Poston boys realize at the time, but their people-oriented, small-town involvement with church, school and community built their confidence and set them on the path to successful careers in the textile industry, ultimately preparing them for their latest role, as philanthropists.
At the end of the day, Ragsdale’s recommendation proved to be spot on. "Being able to marry textiles and education in one grant," says Oakley, "was for us a remarkable, synergistic opportunity."

Get to know Michael Ward, who was recently promoted to executive director of the North Carolina Textile Foundation (NCTF), the fundraising arm of the Wilson College of Textiles.
Over the past year, almost two dozen women at the Wilson College of Textiles have benefited from professional development grants through the Ellen Rohde Leadership Initiative. Female students, faculty and staff have been able to network and learn through travel to conferences, workshops and research opportunities worldwide as a result of these grants, honing their leadership skills and widening their career paths.
A group of recent graduates is helping to shape the NC State Wilson College of Textiles as they give back to their alma mater. The Dean’s Young Alumni Leadership Council was established with 12 members in 2017; over the past year, members have worked to support the College in myriad ways, from volunteering their time at events to creating internship opportunities for current students.
We are delighted to introduce you to the 2018 class of Centennial Scholarship recipients, incoming freshmen chosen on the basis of high academic achievement, proven and potential leadership qualities, extracurricular activities and unique life experiences. This year’s group of scholars is comprised of artists, athletes, actors, musicians, community leaders and volunteers, who have all worked hard to get here and want to make the world a better place.
Latasia Priest holds a degree in mechanical engineering -- but instead of building machines, she spends her days building relationships. As the new assistant director of annual giving and prospect development for the North Carolina Textile Foundation (NCTF), she engages with young alumni every day to boost support for the College of Textiles at NC State.
