Allison Blanchard

  • Position: Support Associate and Purchasing Agent
  • Department: Department of Textile Engineering, Chemistry and Science
  • Hometown: Raleigh, North Carolina

What was your path to this position?

I received my degree in horticultural sciences at NC State University with a landscape design concentration and worked within the horticultural field for a few years but wanted a change of pace. I started off working in the mailroom as a temp and moved up to the Office of Human Resources. After that, I moved over to TECS and have transitioned from temporary employment to a full-time employee.

What are your duties on a day-to-day basis?

I am the first face folks see when they enter the TECS office and help direct people to proper outlets, submit work tickets for IT and facilities issues, assist with key requests for students and faculty, book conference rooms, assist with event planning and catering for the department, place orders and pay for all TECS faculty while providing order status updates, receiving of packages delivered for TECS, keeping supply closet stocked and distributing supplies and keys, assisting with print jobs and other clerical tasks within the office. Along with these tasks, I also help tackle the TECS email queue with Joyce Cole and Dr. Joines, write up meeting minutes for monthly department meetings and assist with various projects overseen by Dr. Joines and other faculty members.

What is your favorite part of your job and/or working at the Wilson College of Textiles?

I really enjoy working with the staff and faculty of our department. I have two great leaders I work with and have learned so much from them.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I enjoy live music, visiting botanical gardens and arboretums, playing with my dogs and relaxing.
