Laura Ritter

  • Position: Accountant
  • Department: Business Office
  • Hometown: King of Prussia, Pennsylvania

What was your path to this position?

After earning a Bachelor of Science in commerce at the University of Virginia, I moved to Raleigh for a job in marketing with a consumer packaged goods company. During my experience there with profit and loss management, I realized I wanted to learn more about accounting and pursued an Associate of Applied Science in accounting at Wake Technical Community College. After meeting people who worked at NC State and sending my sons to this university, I realized I wanted to work at NC State.

Why were you interested in this position / in working at the Wilson College?

I knew I wanted to find an accounting role at NC State, so when I found out about this position, I researched the Wilson College of Textiles to better understand our specific college. I also learned a lot about the Wilson College during the very interactive and educational interviews.

The primary reason I wanted this position was because of the dynamic culture and the welcoming people which were both evident during the comprehensive interview process.

What are your duties on a day-to-day basis?

My role is split between the business office and the Textile Protection and Comfort Center (TPACC). In the business office, I support financial transaction processing for travel authorizations, travel reimbursements, PCard reconciliations, purchasing and billing. For the TPACC, I prepare reports and service agreements and handle billing and purchasing.

What is your favorite part of your job and/or working at the Wilson College of Textiles?

I really enjoy the environment at the Wilson College. I am impressed with the complexity and diversity of work done at the college and feel inspired by my work because of the people I get to work with.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I enjoy spending time outside as much as possible. I like to spend my free time hiking, playing tennis and pickleball, and enjoying time with my family and friends.
