Yingjiao Xu Receives 2020 Outstanding Global Engagement Award
NC State Wilson College of Textiles professor Yingjiao Xu was selected as one of four recipients of NC State’s 2020 Outstanding Global Engagement Award. Dr. Xu was recognized for building international relationships that improve the reputation and impact of NC State and the Wilson College.
The Outstanding Global Engagement Award is an annual award given by NC State and recognizes faculty and non-faculty professionals for their accomplishments in “globally engaged teaching, student support, research, extension and/or engagement and economic development.”
A professor in the Department of Textile Apparel, Technology and Management and director of Ph.D. graduate programs in the Wilson College, Dr. Xu led the development of new 3+X master’s degree programs in collaboration with Jiangnan University, Soochow University and Zhejiang Sci-Tech University. These programs led to a significant increase in graduate enrollment in the College. In addition to developing the new graduate programs, Dr. Xu has created a Summer Textiles Program for first-year graduate students and a study abroad program with the Fashion Institute of Technology and Donghua University.
Dr. Xu’s expertise and international collaborations have built her international reputation for scholarly achievement. She has advised and mentored 17 international visiting scholars, leading to new knowledge in her field. Dr. Xu’s research is in the areas of consumer behavior and market analysis in the textile and fashion industry. Her work looks at consumer behaviors from social, psychological and cultural perspectives with her current research focused on consumer behavior toward innovation in fashion retail.
Dr. Xu joined the Wilson College as an associate professor in 2010 following her tenure with the School of Human and Consumer Sciences at Ohio University. She was promoted to professor in 2019. Dr. Xu received her bachelor’s degree in textile engineering from China Textile University in Shanghai and her master’s degree in textile, apparel and merchandising from Renmin University of China in Beijing. She earned a master’s degree in applied statistics and a Ph.D. in human ecology from Louisiana State University.
