Lucas Wier

  • Position: Coordinator of Recruitment and Educational Outreach
  • Department: Academic, Career and Student Services
  • Hometown: Creedmoor, NC

What was your path to this position?

I graduated from NC State in 2021 and began working in the Undergraduate Admissions Office as an admissions counselor that same year. While working for the Undergraduate Admissions Office, I found a passion for higher education and wanted to continue helping people find their place at NC State. I spent about a year and a half in Undergraduate Admissions before starting with the Wilson College of Textiles in May of 2023.

Why were you interested in this position / in working at the Wilson College?

During my time spent at NC State, I had heard of the community and family that were being cultivated within the Wilson College. The whole environment seemed like something that I would really enjoy so when I found out they were hiring a recruiter, I jumped at the opportunity.

Additionally, I have always had an interest in the textile industry, so being able to play a small role in that is exciting. In regard to the position itself, I am happy that I am able to continue to work with prospective students and their families as this is something that I really enjoyed about my job as an admissions counselor.

What are your duties on a day-to-day basis?

My main focus is on the recruitment of current high school students and helping them find a place with us at the Wilson College of Textiles. This includes high school visits, on-campus programs, college fairs and a lot more.

I am also the program advisor for the Centennial Scholarship Program at the Wilson College, so I work with our current Centennial Scholars and make sure that they are completing the necessary programming and doing well in their respective years.

What is your favorite part of your job and/or working at the Wilson College of Textiles?

My favorite part of working at the Wilson College of Textiles is the people. I have truly enjoyed getting to know everyone that is a member of this community and I am grateful to have a supportive team around me. As for my job, I’m excited to get on the road this year and meet with students all across North Carolina and spark their interest in a career in textiles.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I enjoy playing sports with my friends (I’m very competitive). I also enjoy listening to music/going to concerts and explaining to anyone who will listen why the Beatles are the greatest band of all time.
