Susan Llanos

Susan Llanos

  • Position: Social Media Specialist
  • Department: Communications and Marketing, Zeis Textiles Extension
  • Hometown: Garner, North Carolina

What was your path to this position?

I graduated from Meredith College in 2022 and studied business administration with a concentration in marketing and minored in fashion merchandising. During my time at Meredith I interned with 94.7 QDR, a local country radio station, and managed their social media accounts.

Upon graduation I began working full time at Curtis Marketing Group as an event and marketing coordinator managing large scale events and the corresponding social media accounts. I then decided to apply for the social media specialist position for Wilson and am so glad I’m here.

Why were you interested in this position/in working at the Wilson College?

I grew up as an NC State fan and during my time at Meredith wanted to transfer to Wilson College. While the timing didn’t really work out,I’ve always admired the work students put out and what the college does. When I saw the position it seemed like the perfect blend of putting my knowledge of social media and marketing along with my love for fashion/textiles and admiration of the college all together.

What are your duties on a day-to-day basis?

Day to day I am brainstorming new content ideas to see what would best reach prospective students along with our current students. I am writing up copy for our different social media platforms, creating the content that goes on our platforms, checking our different account analytics to see what can be improved upon, researching different trends as well as researching the platforms in general to see if any algorithms have changed or new features have been added.

What is your favorite part of your job and/or working at the Wilson College of Textiles?

My favorite part of the job is working with students and seeing what they can do and create. I’m constantly blown away when we’re tagged in photos or stories by the amount of creativity and skills they have.

I’ve also been getting to know more about the research/science side of things when it comes to our academic departments, and seeing those students also accomplish so many things and working towards their goals on the projects they’re working on fills me with so much pride. I love being able to say that I work here and talk about the groundbreaking stuff that happens on campus.

What do you like to do outside of work?

Outside of work I like to hang out with my friends, go to a brewery or travel. I have a goldendoodle named Lulu so she also takes up a lot of my time and no matter how much older she gets she still plays like a puppy. I’m also a big Swiftie so I enjoy that.

I also am big into reading and am always looking for a new book to read. And as any other young person I’m also always online and on social media (TikTok specifically).
