Career development is a process that takes time, intentionality and effort. By enrolling in the Wilson College of Textiles, students have indicated their potential career interests; however, post-graduation success often requires mastery of skills and knowledge gained outside of the classroom. While internships, student organizations and other co-curricular activities play a vital role in the career and professional development of students, the need for demonstrable career readiness skills is essential for the transition from college to career.

Employers are looking to hire Wilson College of Textiles students who know how to articulate their talents, strengths and interests. These students are considered Career Ready!

What is Career Readiness?

Career Readiness is defined as the attainment and demonstration of requisite competencies that broadly prepare college graduates for a successful transition to the workplace.

To this end, NACE (National Association of College of Employers), through a task force of college career services and HR/staffing professionals and based on extensive research among employers, has identified eight  competencies associated with career readiness: Critical Thinking/Problem Solving, Oral/Written Communication, Teamwork, Digital Technology, Leadership, Professionalism/Work Ethic, Career Management, and Global Fluency.

How Do You Become Career Ready?

The Wilson College of Textiles Office of Career Services is excited to offer T104 Fabric of Success and Career Readiness. This course is offered in both the fall and spring semesters. Open exclusively to Wilson College of Textiles students, this one-credit professional development course will ensure that you are developing the top skills that employers look for in new hires. Check with your advisor to see if this 1-credit course fits with your schedule.
