How to Apply
Application Steps
1. Explore Study Abroad Program Options
Begin your search by exploring recommended Textiles-related programs. These pages highlight some of the best program options for Wilson College students based on the types of courses they offer.
Note: The programs listed are not the only options for Wilson College students. To explore programs not highlighted on our website, utilize the Choosing a Program page on the Study Abroad Office’s website to review specific information about other study abroad options.
Here are some factors to consider when researching and comparing programs:
- What type of classes do you want to take?
- Where do you want to explore?
- What skills would you like to develop?
- What are the student housing options?
- How much does it cost?
- What are the cultural and societal norms in the host country as they relate to aspects of my identity?
2. Meet with the advisor for Textiles students in the Study Abroad Office.
(required for all semester and year-long programs, except Lorenzo de’Medici)
Schedule an appointment with Lindsay Hughes or Mansir Petrie, Study Abroad Advisor for Wilson College of Textiles students.
3. Review your degree audit in MyPack Portal.
- Identify remaining degree requirements (RED X’s)
- Identify 1 or 2 study abroad programs that interest you AND that offer appropriate courses for your degree program
- Consider one of the recommended programs by major on the Textiles Study Abroad Website
- We recommend that Textiles students save at least 2-3 GEP courses and 2-3 major electives to take abroad.
- Fashion and Textile Management (FTM) students may only transfer in ONE 3-credit direct equivalent FTM-prefix course (i.e. FTM 310, FTM 385) through study abroad. The FTM Advised Electives ARE eligible for credit through study abroad. Non-FTM Prefix courses (i.e. TMS 211, EC 202, ST 311, etc.) may also be taken through study abroad. Please communicate with the Textiles study abroad coordinator if you have questions about which courses you may transfer in through study abroad and refer to the Textiles Study Abroad Database.
4. Discuss your plans with your academic advisor
Meet with your academic advisor to discuss the best study abroad programs and timing for your academic major and career path. This is important to discuss so you can stay on track for your anticipated graduation date. Many of our undergraduate degree programs have recommended semesters to study abroad based on the required course sequencing.
5. Begin your Study Abroad application.
The program specific application includes essays, an academic recommendation, transcripts, etc. All of these materials will be submitted through the PackAbroad application. Specific questions about your application should be directed to the Study Abroad Office.
6. Complete the Course Pre-Approval Form
As part of your application, you will be required to submit a Course Pre-Approval Form to ensure you understand how study abroad courses will fit into your degree requirements. See detailed instructions for completing the Course Pre-Approval Form.
Once you have completed the course pre-approval form, send it to the appropriate Wilson College approver for signatures and submission.
The approval process can take up to 10-14 business days, so plan to submit your form well in advance of the application deadline.
7. Submit your completed Study Abroad application by the deadline
Program application and scholarship application deadlines can be found on
the Study Abroad Office’s Deadlines page.
