Friends,

Warm greetings from the Wilson College of Textiles. Even though it’s summer, our halls are lively. We are wrapping up our second week of STEP camp; our incoming freshmen are on campus this week for orientation; and in July we’ll welcome two more groups of STEP campers as well as Polymer Campers.

On May 13 we graduated our largest class ever: 245 students. I am confident that as they pursue careers, further education and volunteer commitments around the world, they will be excellent ambassadors for NC State and the Wilson College of Textiles.

In our latest Wilson College of Textiles newsletter, we introduce you to two of these graduates who were honored for their commitment to service – to military students and to the community. We also spotlight faculty for their outstanding accomplishments in teaching, research, outreach and equity, and highlight the remarkable accomplishments of The Nonwovens Institute, which opened a new world-class facility in May.

We have a new face at the College. Carrie Bhada is the executive director of the North Carolina Textile Foundation. Learn about Carrie as well as the progress we’re making as we work towards our College goal for the Think and Do the Extraordinary Campaign. As you read through the stories in the newsletter, I hope you’ll take note of the many ways in which gifts and support have led to impactful outcomes. From the success of a graduating Centennial Scholar to sponsorships that help Fashion and Textile Design seniors showcase their final collections. The generosity of our friends, alumni and partners truly makes a difference.

Summer passes all too quickly. I hope you have a happy and safe Fourth of July and enjoy a wonderful summer season.
