Thousands of woven bookmarks are headed to donors and friends of the Wilson College of Textiles.

The 2023 bookmark continues a tradition stretching all the way back to 1960. Each year, the bookmark design is guided by a theme and determined by a competition between students, alumni, faculty and staff.

This year’s bookmark theme was Wilson For Life – a formalization of the college’s commitment to supporting both students and alumni throughout their career. It is made up of these four continuing initiatives:

  • Lifetime career services.
  • Discounts for continuing education via the Zeis Textiles Extension.
  • Online career advice resources.
  • The Blend Mentorship Program.

Elizabeth Alexander, an M.S. in Textiles student in the Wilson College, won this year’s competition.

“My design was inspired by the idea of connection. I wanted to visualize the different elements and stages of life through which people connect to each other, to the Wilson College of Textiles and through NC State,” Alexander says. “I really wanted the design to incorporate the hand symbol of the Wolfpack as it connects people throughout the college and its history; it’s recognizable and I wanted to incorporate symbols that represent people and elements from the Wilson College.”

Inspired by Alexander’s suggestion of the hand symbol to represent Wilson For Life, the Wilson College’s multimedia specialist, Beth Palmer, developed a new digital icon to be used across platforms.
