TE Student Talks Wearable Wireless Power Transmission at ACC Meeting of the Minds Conference

Textile Engineering senior Tyler Henson is developing a garment that has a receiver coil knitted directly into its structure so that it can receive power wirelessly from a stationary coil that is plugged into a power supply. This technology can be used for powering mobile devices wirelessly through the garment or even be incorporated into wearable medical textiles to power the vital sign monitoring devices in the future.

John Y. "Jack" Daniels has been named recipient of the 2017 Textile Leader of the Year Award. Daniels, an alumnus and executive vice president at American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC), will receive his award April 18.

LED Upgrade Saves Energy, Improves Senior Design Lab

The Senior Design lab in the College of Textiles recently underwent a retrofit project that improved lighting quality while reducing power consumption by two-thirds. The project, which is expected to save $4,700 annually in avoided energy costs, also provides students with a healthier indoor environment.

Annett-Hitchcock Receives 2017 Equity for Women Award

College of Textiles Associate Professor Katherine Annett-Hitchcock won the 2017 Equity for Women Award at the Annual Sisterhood Dinner on Feb. 27. The award was presented by NC State University’s Council on the Status of Women.
