Fashion and Textile Management – Fashion Development and Product Management 8-Semester Course Display

There are 5 (five) courses in the fashion concentration that must be taken in order, starting in the sophomore year, for a student to graduate on time.

  • FTM 219: Fashion Product Analysis
  • It’s very helpful if the student can get FTM 271: Computer-Aided Textile Design before the semester with FTM 317
  • FTM 315: Fashion Product Design
  • FTM 317: Computer-Aided-Design for Apparel
  • FTM 318: Fashion Development Processes
  • FTM 415: Fashion Product Development

Planning to Study Abroad?

Enroll in both FTM 315 and FTM 317 in the same semester. These are the ONLY two courses that can be taken at the same time in this curriculum. The student should make sure to register at the EARLIEST opportunity that they possibility can, to enable them to get into FTM 317. No special exceptions will be made.

Interested in the Senior Collection Studio?

FTM 497 is the advanced fashion product design studio course where students create a “collection” of garment designs. The emphasis in this course is on ideation, creativity, communication, theme development, fit, quality and exhibition of the designer’s work. This course counts as 6 hours in the FDPM Electives. Please keep this in mind when making study abroad plans.

In some recent semesters, interested students have been juried into the course due to the large number of students wanting to take the course. Interested students should be prepared to show examples of their work during their time at NC State and conduct the initial research assignment for the jury process.
