Textiles Students Compete and Win at Graduate Research Symposium
Eighteen Wilson College of Textiles students competed in the 11th Annual NC State Graduate Student Research Symposium held March 23. When the judging was done, two had claimed top spots. Ruth Adikorley, who is in the Textile Technology Management doctoral program, took first place in the Social Sciences and Management category, while Allison Bowles, a student in the master’s of science in textiles program, took third place in the same category.
The annual event included poster presentations from more than 200 graduate students across NC State University and was judged by faculty, and students. The goals of the event are to showcase the outstanding quality and diversity of graduate-level research at NC State, in addition to providing students with the opportunity to practice and enhance their communication skills with those outside of their discipline. The symposium was sponsored by the Graduate School and the Graduate Student Association. Students are nominated by directors of graduate programs.
Adikorley’s presented on “Sub-Saharan Africa’s Competitiveness in the U.S. Apparel Market”. Her advisors are Dr. Kristin Thoney-Barletta, Dr. Jeff Joines and Dr. Lori Rothenberg.
Bowles presented on “Size Grading of Zero Waste Garments”. She is advised by Dr. Katherine Annett -Hitchcock.
The other 16 Wilson College of Textiles students who competed are listed below. To read more about each student’s research, check out the abstracts from the event. Textiles is featured beginning on page 81.
