Design + science + nature = the ultimate Wilson Wellness Day! 🌿
On Tuesday, Sept. 29, nearly 40 members of the Pack gathered in the Wilson College Breezeway for a hands-on Natural Dye and Fiber Spinning Workshop. Participants dyed their own cotton bandanas using natural dyes — including madder, cochineal, marigolds and onion skins — while exploring how plants, insects and animals connect to textiles.
Attendees also enjoyed a natural fiber spinning demonstration and learned more about the campus textile garden.

For decades, researchers have used the traditional PyroMan system to evaluate flash fire protection, but it has always relied on a stationary manikin. Because real-world emergencies are anything but static, Wilson College researchers spent more than two and a half years developing a moving evolution: the patented Dynamic PyroMan.
This newly secured patent not only protects a unique testing capability but also solidifies the Textile Protection and Comfort Center’s (TPACC) position as an unmatched leader in textile innovation and a trusted partner to industries worldwide.

This summer, Wilson students were all over the Big Apple! 🍎
Riley Hall (FTM-FDPM ’27) worked in merchandising at Macy’s headquarters, supporting assortment planning through market visits. Maylan Maxwell (FTM-FDPM ’27) joined Burlington Stores as a buying intern in ladies’ shoes, analyzing sales trends for future buys. Sophia Stacy (FTD-FD ’27) spent her summer at Ralph Lauren bringing sweater designs to life through hand sketching.

This past summer, textile engineering master’s student Andrianna Hodges served as a Nike product engineering intern at JR286 in the Los Angeles area. She worked in the in-house product testing lab, gaining hands-on experience with product creation and development across a variety of sports products, including gloves, protective equipment, basketballs, footballs and headbands.
“This experience gave me valuable insight into how product engineering, material testing and innovation come together to create high-performance products for athletes,” Andrianna says.
Buongiorno, Wilson!
Inside and outside the classroom, Devyn Williams (FTD-FD ’27) took advantage of every opportunity available while studying abroad last spring at Lorenzo de’ Medici in Florence, Italy.
Devyn shared that “Some highlights were the educational activities LDM hosted that allowed students to get immersed in the culture and history of Florence, such as walking tours and culinary classes.”

During his summer internship, fiber and polymer science Ph.D. candidate Md Abul Shahid put the skills he developed at Wilson College into action!
He applied his knowledge to pharmaceutical research, using advanced microscopy and image analysis to study kidney tissue and better understand structural changes associated with disease.
“The internship was a great example of how the interdisciplinary training we receive at Wilson College can translate beyond traditional textiles into biotechnology, biomedical research and the pharmaceutical industry,” Md Abul says.
