The World of Textiles Awaits

It's a multibillion-dollar global industry that's integrated into everything we do — and you could drive the field's next big advancements.

Leading the Way in Textiles Education

Textiles are all around us: from the playing field to the runway, shielding first responders from danger or even shoring up a human heart. At the Wilson College of Textiles, we teach you to apply textiles thinking to the grand challenges facing our world.

By the time you leave here, you’ll know there are thousands of ways to use what you’ve learned in a career that you’ll love. And because ours is the only college on this continent solely focused on textiles, our graduates are among the most sought-out anywhere.

The Partner of Choice

NC State was built to create prosperity. Since 1899, the Wilson College of Textiles has shared that mission. As the only college in North America dedicated to textiles, we’re the destination of choice for anyone who needs textiles expertise — including some of the biggest brands on the planet.

The future of health care is being woven right here at Wilson. 🫀

Seven decades after researchers developed the world’s first artificial aorta in the college, our Biomedical Textile Research Group and advanced labs are pioneering the next generation of health care solutions. From 3D-printed “magnetic muscles” for internal medicine delivery to smart electronics woven directly into wearable sensors, textile research at Wilson is shaping the future of health care.

With growing opportunities across the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and medical device industries, our textile graduates are uniquely equipped to tackle the world’s most pressing health care challenges.

“Textiles is not just towels and socks. We’re using these textile materials as a way to replicate what we’re seeing in the body,” said Jessica Gluck, assistant professor at the Wilson College of Textiles.

During the NC-MSEN Pre-College Program, campers got hands-on experience in the Wilson labs exploring how everyday fabrics connect to medical breakthroughs. They worked through exciting experiments, including preparing serial dilutions and testing fabric effectiveness.

Not only did the campers learn how chemistry, engineering and technology work together, they also explored how medical textiles protect and improve human health.
