TE | Product Engineering Concentration
The Product Engineering concentration of the Bachelor in Science in Textile Engineering (TE) focuses on the design of new and innovative products and is the most multi-disciplinary and flexible of the three TE concentrations. Students can focus in a specific area of interest, like biomedical materials, sports textiles, composites, sustainability or machine design. Graduates might design high-performance fabrics for athletes or travel overseas to ensure products are reliable before they’re distributed to other countries.
Career Options
- Product Engineer
- Quality Engineer
- Process Engineer
- Production Manager
- Quality Manager
The Details
Students in the Product Engineering concentration learn the fundamentals of materials and receive in-depth training in the fundamentals of polymer and fiber science. In addition, students learn the processing-property relationships for yarns and 2-D fabric structures. Students also learn quality process improvement methodology called Six Sigma as part of their curriculum. The program encourages students to pursue their personal academic goals through summer internships, study abroad programs, capstone senior design projects, and undergraduate research.
This concentration allows students to choose three engineering electives, where students may choose to broaden their background for deepen their understanding in a particular field. Many students that pursue this concentration choose to earn a double major or minor in areas like materials science and engineering or other fields.
