TT | Technical Textiles Concentration

Technical textiles are fiber-based products used in applications other than apparel and home furnishing. Familiar examples of these are home / automotive filters, airbags, seat belts, parachutes, bulletproof vests, firefighter turnout suits, face masks, etc. In addition there are many notable examples of inconspicuous use of textile products in tires, civil construction and geotechnical engineering. The Technical Textiles concentration focuses on product design principles, understanding of applications, materials, and technologies relevant to the vast array of technical textile materials and products.

The Details

Students in the Technical Textiles concentration of the Bachelor of Science in Textile Technology (TT) focus on design and manufacture of advanced textile materials and products that are designed and used for specific performance and function. Notable examples of these are textiles used in transportation, storage, packaging, automobile engineering, geotechnical engineering, etc. The concentration covers product design principles, understanding of applications, and technologies relevant to the technical textile products. The rigorous academic program prepares students for productive and meaningful careers in the revitalized high-value and high-technology segments of the U.S. fiber-textile industry as well as for graduate education in textiles or in related fields.

The program encourages students to participate in summer internships, study abroad programs, and undergraduate research.
