Dr. Delisia Matthews is an Associate Professor in the department of Textile and Apparel, Technology and Management within the Wilson College of Textiles, where she has taught since 2015. Her research focuses on consumer behavior and trends, with an emphasis on sneaker and streetwear culture, sustainable fashion practices, clothing rentals and swaps, plus-size consumers, African-American consumers and cultural meaning in decision-making. With a background in marketing research and retail at companies like Procter & Gamble, Nordstrom, and Walmart, she blends industry insight into her scholarship. An award-winning educator, Dr. Matthews uses qualitative research to center consumers’ voices, tell their stories, and advocate for the communities behind the culture. She has received multiple honors, including the university-level 2017 Outstanding Teacher Award, the Family and Consumer Sciences Research Journal 2020 Best Paper Award in Apparel, Textiles and Merchandising, the 2019 African American Cultural Center Faculty Fellowship, and numerous “Thank A Teacher” recognitions.
